The Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) is a quick and pain free scan that can tell you a lot about your body. This fast, non-invasive, and highly accurate method measures body composition including fat tissue, lean mass and bone density, providing valuable insights for optimizing health and wellness strategies.

Key Benefits of a DXA scan:

  • Precise body composition analysis
  • Visceral adipose tissue measurement
  • Resting metabolic rate (RMR) estimate
  • Accurate and comprehensive results
  • Track progress over time, whether seeking to lose body fat, maintain, or add muscle mass
  • Enhance health strategy

Understanding body composition goes beyond tracking weight. A DXA scan assesses muscle-to-fat ratio, visceral fat levels, and bone density estimates, providing crucial data for managing weight, optimizing athletic performance, and making informed decisions to enhance health and longevity.

How to prepare for your scan:

  • Consistency in attire and preparation is recommended for future scans
  • Refrain from working out the day before or the day of the exam
  • Ensure proper hydration
  • Fast for at least 3 hours prior to the procedure
  • Wear lightweight, metal-free clothing
  • Remove jewelry, watches, underwires, or clothing containing zippers prior to the scan
  • Avoid heavy sweatshirts or jeans
  • Scan cannot be performed during pregnancy
  • Table weight limit: 350 pounds

What to expect during your DXA scan:

Our licensed technologist will guide you through the exam, which includes height and weight measurement, followed by a 6- to 15-minute scan while comfortably lying on the scanning table. The appointment will last approximately 30 minutes. A report will be given to you upon completion of your scan.
